The view across the street from Right Brain Resource is a doggie day-care where you hear a cacophony of barking while the bad dogs get sprayed with water. This scene is a fitting backdrop to Right Brain’s low key, friendly, and accessible operation. While they’re serious about getting Portlanders into great jobs, they don’t take themselves too serious.

Anyone who has ever looked for a job knows it can turn you into a big phony. You squeeze into that pair of slacks you bought five years ago and go about claiming you’re the most inventive graphic designer, or meticulous administrative assistant the company’s ever met. At Right Brain Resource, you’ll experience job hunting differently, because you can actually be yourself. “The key to a good interview is to get the candidate to relax and be themselves. It’s only then you can get to know what that person is truly like.” Says owner Dan Garriott. The staff at Right Brain finds you the perfect job by understanding your strengths and interests, not by judging your outfit or putting you through hours of computer tests. “When client’s ask me why we don’t use computer testing to screen applicants I ask them who would they like to have perform their heart surgery, someone who has done it for 10 years or someone who has scored high on a test.” Says Dan.

Much like a therapist acts as an impartial judge to your life problems; Right Brain Resource takes an objective view of your portfolio and skills, and then lends a hand. As owner Dan Garriott explains, “Everyone is at different levels and no one is without value. I have met great designers who struggle to get by and I have met people right out of school who walk into great jobs. I truly believe that job hunting is more of an art than a science.”

Unlike other staffing agencies, Right Brain isn’t pressuring you into a job you don’t want, because it’s bad business for you and the client. Instead, Right Brain’s mission is to improve the quality of life for everyone involved. “One average a bad hire can take six months to correct and cost your company four times what that person makes. That’s why it is so important to find the right people for the right job.” Says Dan.
