Pantone Rubik’s Cube

November 4th, 2008

rubik.jpg

Sheer genius: the Rubitone, a Rubik’s Cube coded with the Pantone Color Matching System. Man- I had a hard enough time with the original Rubik’s. Now this!

OK- As far as creative ideas this is a bit of a one trick pony but it’s still worth a look. I loved the part about the “Old creatives”. “We just leave them there as a reminder”. Ain’t that the truth! LINK.

Ron Howard’s Call to Action

October 30th, 2008

 fonz.JPG

Say what you want about the election, there are been some of the most creative and amazing promotions done in this past election than any election prior. If you haven’t see this already you should take a look. In October 2008, Howard reprised his roles as Opie Taylor and Richie Cunningham for the first time in over 20 years when he appeared in a video on funnyordie.com in which he endorsed Barack Obama and urged people to vote. The video, titled “Ron Howard’s Call to Action”, also features Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler.

Continuing with my “not so serious politico theme” -I found a site dedicated to supporting Obama by carving pumpkins. Only on the internet folk only on the internet.  Under there “about” page they explain:

What is this site about?
The presidential election is November 4. Halloween is October 31. We like carving pumpkins. Hence, YesWeCarve.com.

Wassup 2008

October 29th, 2008

Again- I’ve seen this posted on just about every blog. So why post it here? Well- aside from the fact that it deals directly with advertising (and is very creative in its own right) I found it interesting that the guys from the old Bud Light ads (an Anheuser-Busch company ) got together and did a pro Obama take off when Cindy McCain (John McCain’s wife) is considered a to be an absentee owner in the Anheuser-Busch company owning at least $2.7 million worth of shares of Anheuser-Busch stock. On one hand I’m playing 6 degrees of Barack Obama on the other I couldn’t help but note the irony.

Real Ad Men Talk About Mad Men

October 24th, 2008

mad-men-2.jpg

It’s funny. I have not watched this series yet. But I have been told by about 10 different people that I will love it and that I “have to see it”. I’m kind of looking at watching this DVD like a bottle of fine wine that get’s better with age. Wired did a nice interview of two “real ad men”. Worth a read.

Comments from Apple CEO Steve Jobs suggested that the cash-rich computer and phone maker might be in a good position to start snapping up struggling tech companies.

the good folks over at Portland Architecture take some time to review the University of Oregon’s new home at the renovated White Stag block, in Old Town PDX. Take a look.

TAP’D NY

October 23rd, 2008

nyctap.jpg

Tap’dNY is a New York City bottled water company with a local twist, a knack for honesty and a beautifully designed bottle. They work with NYC’s public water system to source the world’s best tasting tap water, purify it through reverse osmosis and bottle it locally, leaving out ludicrous transportation miles. They offer an honest and local alternative to thirsty New Yorkers, giving them a smarter choice: to drink their own (award winning) water.

Read their manifesto to see what they stand for.
